A Cruel comfort and a generous thief

Hey there!

It's been ages that I haven't written a thing, am sure some of you have forgotten about this blog and no excuse can be enough for you, but here I am, am back and as people make resolutions for new year, mine was to be faithful to this blog this year :)

Today I'd love to share with you something I have been thinking of lately, a cruel comfort and a generous thief, am convinced that if you have read more than two of my posts you now know that I like to use oxymoron, yeah, because they help me bring out the real meaning of what we do and the impact they really get on us.

COMPARISON is what am talking about today, we so much like to compare ourselves to other people, our friends, our siblings, our workmates and sometimes to people we don't even know , we call ourselves successful comparing to other people's failure or we just feel much comfortable when we realize that there are some other people going through the same struggles as we are going through.

I've seen this happening more in Christian communities, where you see people feeling much comfortable to find out  that someone else is committing the same sin as they are fighting with, or much worse, people feeling much better because someone they didn't think is actually committing what they would call a worse sin. people love to know that they have company in their misery, but it doesn't take away even a small piece off their situation.

Because, when God looks at you, He doesn't compare you with any other person on earth or in heaven, He sees you as if you were the only person existing, and He has a plan for you that isn't comparable to any other person's plan. and so should you not compare your progress and success to someone else behind you but only to where God brought you from and where He is taking you.

This is one part of comparison where you see yourself on the better side, but there's another one!

The part of comparison, where you see yourself on the worse side, you look at other people and wonder what is wrong with you, you look at their success, their health, their relationships, and ask yourself if God has forgotten about you or if He is punishing you for some mistakes you made in the past. Now, you would be a saint if you have never felt like this before, because to be honest I've found myself in times like that and I had to remind myself of who God is and how deals with our past mistakes. He does not deal with us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities, but He forgives and forgets, and gives new beginnings.

It takes a great deal of faith and trust in God that He is doing something amazing in your life even when all you can see around you are things that you don't have and wish you had. Comparing is the number one robber/thief of joy and happiness, it shifts your view/attention from what God is doing in your own life to what He is doing in someone else's life, and you miss the opportunity to thank Him and trust Him for the rest.

I hope this year you choose to focus on your journey as an individual, only comparing yourself to who you were yesterday and nothing else. Let the heavenly standards be your only measure of righteousness and not what anyone else does or doesn't do, let God unfold His plans for you in His own way customized just for you, because you are so unique.

Wish you a grateful 2015!

With love,

Natasha
